Tevaberiel and Trick
![]()
Trick was the smallest dragon of the whole hatching at the Healing Den, at just twelve feet long. Her hide was a oily metallic green, her build delicate yet firm and strong, and she was beautiful. Though he never thought it would happen, Tevaberiel was in love.
Surely you did not doubt you would love me, Trick said, nuzzling her rider from where they lay. The tiny green had at first been confused at her rider's wish to live in the forests of his homeland. Dragons lived in Weyrs where she came from, and the thought of making her home in the base of a gnarled and ancient tree was loathsome. But once she'd seen the place and smelled the smells and learnt of the creatures and the magicks around the Otherlands, she had refused to even look at a cave again. Her little rider had been pleased at this.
"I never doubt anything when I'm with you, great beauty," Teva practically purred.
What did you ever do without me? she replied, smiling fondly. Because the two lived alone, their bond was even closer than some. They fully relied upon each other for companionship and survival. And neither went lacking.
The Dark Faerie chuckled, his soft voice carrying with it promise of mischief and evil to come. But when he spoke, his words were filled with love. "I would have had a lot of fun, but it would have been empty without you."
Oh, so sweet! Trick replied with a huge grin, but her heart were sincere. Do you remember the day we were joined?
"Like it was yesterday."
Another egg had hatched, but no one noticed her because of a loud fire-and-earth dragon hatching. She was beautiful, in a way that most other greens could not be. Her hide was metallic, a shimmering which would not go away when she had dried and grown up. And, she was tiny. Not quite as compact and teeny as one of Julanith’s brood, but just a hair smaller and lean, from Tsuyoith’s sand.
“What is this I spy?” said a voice, smaller than most. Mostly to himself. “I think it is a beautiful trick of the light. Elfin magic perhaps?”
No magic, but my name is Trick, bespoke the tiny green to her equally tiny fey bond. Tevaberiel latched his arm around the dragon’s neck and hefted himself up, the only rider well able to ride his hatchling right off the sands! [Written by Masterhealer Baeris]
"And I'm still riding," Tevaberiel finished. "Riding my love 'til eternity comes to an end."
