Kysarna and Nycatrith
[Statistics] [Candidate] [Adult]

Kysarna looked fondly at the full-grown dragon and shook her head, marvelling at the speed at which the beauty had grown up. Every rider did the same, but she swore it was only yesterday that the stubborn green had been having some difficulty at getting herself hatched...
The chatter was silenced instantly when Cylanth bugled again from the Sands - and all eyes were drawn to one of the small eggs hatching. The candidates and the crowd held their breath as the egg kept rocking violently, though no signs of cracks showed.
Everyone was getting a bit restless as still the egg didn't hatch - its activities just grew more wild. Finally, on of the three girls muttered under her breath, "I'm sick of this." She strode easily over to the egg, unclasping her belt-knife, while Cylanth looked decidedly more nervous.
What's she doing to my egg? The green demanded of her rider. Atlea scowled. Hush, she's just helping it out.
And indeed she was. Kysarna dug her knife into the eggshell, and the hatchling inside needed no more help - with a crack the egg split, and a green tumbled out right at the young woman's feet.
The dragonet gave a sort of sniff, picking herself up regally. Well. The green looked up at the bemused Kysarna. I'm glad someone had the sense to help me out.
Kysarna laughed as she led the dragonet off the Sands, overjoyed that she had finally Impressed. "Uhhuh, right, Nycatrith."
[Hatching written by Weyrwoman Mayhe]
And apart from the physically growing-up, Nyca had hardly changed. She was stubborn, vain and for some reason, terribly clumsy. The pair had transferred to Dragon Soul Weyr when they had graduated from a class that knew them both well, and when they had arrived, the Weyrfolk didn't know quite what to make out of them. Naturally, they accepted them as their own, but to this day, Kysarna still got odd looks when Nyca fell over herself.
I am not that bad! the aforementioned green complained, hearing her rider's thoughts.
Kysarna chuckled. "Of course you're not, honey. They just think you are, that's all. They couldn't be more wrong!"
As if to prove a point, Nycatrith promptly turned a little too fast an tripped on her long tail. With an oddly human-sounding 'oof', she picked herself up, shook her head like a canine and looked around regally to make sure nobody was laughing at her.
Shaking her head, Kysarna smiled fondly at her lifemate. "You're so cute, you know that?"
Of course I do, Nyca replied unselfconsciously. What else would I be?
